An impressive variety of guitars previously owned or played by such rock legends as Paul McCartney, Jimi Hendrix, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty and Jerry Garcia will be up for bid at a music memorabilia auction on December 2 at Bohemian National Hall in New York City. The Legendary Guitars & Musical Treasures sale, hosted by Guernsey’s auction house, also features other rare instruments, as well as various historic concert and studio recordings.

The auction includes a gold 1953 Gibson Les Paul guitar that McCartney played at London’s Air Studios in 2012, a 1967 Guild guitar Hendrix played at a Florida bar following his set at the 1968 Miami Pop Festival and a 1963 Fender Precision bass Springsteen used during the sessions for his debut album.

Among the other guitars up for bid are a white Stratocaster signed by Petty and his band The Heartbreakers, two acoustic guitars that Garcia used during the early 1990s and a 1976 Guild 12-string acoustic once owned by Steve Miller. In addition, guitars played and/or owned by Johnny Winter, Madonna and Foghat bassist Tony Stevens will be available.

A number of guitars belonging to Les Paul that the late music innovator had inscribed and planned to give as gifts to Bob Dylan, Prince, George Harrison and Paul Simon will be on the block as well.
