Stella McCartney has spoken out about designing the evening gown for the newlywed Duchess of Sussex.
Last night, Meghan wore a bespoke Stella gown made of lily white silk crepe, featuring a high neck halter silhouette, and was pictured in the gown as she and Prince Harry departed Windsor Castle for Frogmore House, where Prince Charles was hosting an exclusive reception for 200 close family members and friends.
“I am so proud and honoured to have been chosen by the Duchess of Sussex to make her evening gown and represent British design,” Stella said in an interview to Women’s Wear Daily.“It has truly been one of the most humbling moments of my career and I am so proud of all the team on this stunning sunny royal day.” Stella revealed to Women’s Wear Daily that she also dressed Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, for the evening reception, and shared exclusive design sketches with the publication. They show the front and back of Meghan’s gown.
According to Women’s Wear Daily, Doria wore a “scarlet long-sleeved dress in silk cady, nude alter suede sandals and a brass gold box clutch.”
Meghan’s outfit was complete with Aquazurra silky satin shoes that featured nude mesh and baby blue soles. She wore Cartier earrings and an aquamarine ring that previously belonged to Diana, Princess of Wales.
Paul McCartney, posted on his Instagram account twice yesterday: in the afternoon following the wedding, when he posted congratulations to the newlyweds and one to Stella, “…Also congratulations to my lovely daughter Stella for making Amal Clooney and Oprah Winfrey look even more beautiful in her fabulous dresses.”
Later, he posted a photo of Meghan in her reception gown with the comment, “Wow! How proud am I of my daughter Stella designing this beautiful dress for Meghan on this historic day! Congratulations all round. Me, Nancy and all our family send our love to all those involved.”
