A belt buckle worn by John Lennon didn’t sell after bidders failed to reach its reserve price. (Estimate: £25,000 – £35,000).
A bespoke Aztec-style belt buckle with turquoise encrusted stones on the body of an eagle. Extensively worn by John Lennon c1970s and with numerous photographs documenting this (see images).
Also a note by John Lennon to Spence Berland, VP of ‘Record World Magazine‘ with whom he (Lennon) swapped one of his buckles for the Berland’s. The note reads “To Spence, Belt Up!” – and is dated “74”. the signed page has been affixed to a paper backing (signed area 13.5×7.5cm, overall page 28x21cm).
Measures 6 cm x 8.5 cm x 1.5 cm (2 1/4″ x 3 1/4″ x 1/2″).
This lot also includes: 2013 Frank Caizzo COA authenticating the Lennon signature on the page, a copy of a 2013 LOP from Spence Berland regarding the belt, 12 glossy modern reproductions of photos of Lennon either wearing the belt, or during that period.
