Magical Mystery Tour is a 1967 British musical comedy film directed by Paul McCartney and produced by Denis O’Dell for United Artists. It stars the Beatles as themselves, along with a supporting cast of actors, musicians, and friends. The film follows the Beatles on a bus trip to an unknown destination, where they encounter a series of strange and surreal events.
The first week of filming for the Magical Mystery Tour television special saw a number of scenes being filmed between Newquay and London.
On this day 15 september, 1967: following breakfast on this morning, a brief scene was filmed in front of the Atlantic Hotel in Newquay.
The Beatles were filmed in London, with cast and crew as they filmed the scenes in 1967 for the BBC Christmas special, stopping for a scene in a tiny chip shop, Smedley’s at 108 Roman Road in Taunton, Somerset – these was unused in the final edit.
The group are seen piling into the chippy and standing at the stainless-steel counter as they order their food along with the rest of their coach party, en route to Newquay, Cornwall.
The original version of Magical Mystery Tour was aired on December 26, 1967.
