Paul´s remarkable music career has been honoured with a commemorative coin collection created by The Royal Mint. The £5 collection, which is available in a number of different finishes, features the Beatles legend’s iconic Magic Piano, as well as a Höfner Violin Bass guitar, Wings logo and personalised piano notes chosen by Paul.
Hailed one of the most successful British musicians and songwriters of all time, Sir Paul has had a career spanning almost 70 years, selling over 100million solo albums in that time. Now, inspired by Paul’s use of pennies as guitar picks, the special coin collection will honour his success.
Paul, who has just started the European leg of his ‘Got Back’ tour, said: “This feels like a huge honour. It’s not anything I would have ever expected to happen when I was a kid.”
Rebecca Morgan, Director of Commemorative Coin at The Royal Mint said: “Our coins recognise the greatest icons and events in British history, so it’s fitting that Paul McCartney’s remarkable music career is now celebrated on an official UK coin. What makes this coin extra special is that Paul has been involved throughout the design process. The coin celebrates elements from throughout his solo career, and we hope fans will enjoy the layered references to songs, instruments and bands.”
Fans will be given the chance to own a unique item from the collection in early 2025, with The Royal Mint auctioning off a gold coin signed by Paul.
