Between December 24, 1964, and January 16, 1965, the Hammersmith Odeon in London hosted a pop variety spectacle titled “Another Beatles Christmas Show.”

Following a brief pause on December 27, the event proceeded with a run of 20 performance dates.

Usually, the schedule consisted of two shows per evening, though this was not the case for the debut or the session on December 29.

There were no activities on Christmas Day or on the Sundays of December 27, January 3, and January 10, leading up to the final curtain call on January 16.

For the shows on December 28, a wide array of talent joined the bill, featuring groups like The Yardbirds, Freddie and the Dreamers, and Sounds Incorporated, alongside singers Elkie Brooks and Michael Haslam.

The master of ceremonies was Jimmy Savile, a figure who is now viewed with disgrace; at the time, the cast reportedly shared a mutual dislike for him and struggled to get along with him.

The souvenir program for the event also included a special touch, featuring a holiday-themed drawing created by John Lennon on its reverse side.

The performance began with The Mike Cotton Sound playing the hit “Yeh Yeh,” followed by a collaboration with Michael Haslam on the song “Scarlet Ribbons.”

After a set by The Yardbirds, The Beatles took part in a comedy pantomime where they portrayed explorers in Antarctica. This particular segment was so poorly received by the band members themselves that they reportedly swore off doing similar sketches ever again. The first half of the evening concluded with Freddie and the Dreamers performing a selection of high-energy tracks.

The second portion of the concert kicked off with Elkie Brooks and a performance by Sounds Incorporated. Finally, after being introduced by Savile, The Beatles took the stage. In addition to participating in sketches with Freddie Garrity and the host, the group delivered a powerful 11-song finale. Their repertoire included hits such as “Twist And Shout,” “I’m A Loser,” “I Feel Fine,” and “A Hard Day’s Night,” ultimately closing the production with “Long Tall Sally.”

The Beatles’ Christmas shows were a hit; no one but them could pack the Hammersmith Odeon twice nightly for more than two weeks. They were full of traditional songs, as well as their own hits. It doesn’t get more Christmassy than this.
