The tenth day of the Get Back/Let It Be sessions marked the end of the band’s time at Twickenham Film Studios, as they prepared to move to their Apple Corps headquarters at 3 Savile Row. This relocation to the basement studio was a specific requirement set by George Harrison for his return to the group following his brief departure on January 10, 1969.

On January 16, while the Twickenham set was being broken down by Glyn Johns, Mal Evans, and Kevin Harrington, Paul McCartney made an unscheduled appearance to lay down a piano demo for “Oh! Darling,” a track that would later appear on Abbey Road. This specific recording session, captured under the technical guidance of Glyn Johns, was later featured in Peter Jackson’s 2021 Get Back docuseries.

Once the demo was finished, George met Johns at the studio, and the two headed to the Apple offices to evaluate the workspace Alexis “Magic Alex” Mardas had been building.

They quickly discovered that the setup was amateurish and plagued by severe technical interference, making it impossible to record the band’s new material there.

To save the project, Johns reached out to George Martin to secure professional equipment on loan from EMI. Over the following weekend, a technical team including Dave Harries, Keith Slaughter, and EMI engineers worked tirelessly to overhaul the studio.

They eventually created a functional setup by linking two portable four-track consoles to George’s personal 3M eight-track recorder, finally making the basement suitable for the band’s needs.
