COMPLETE SET OF BEATLES WHITTIER HOTEL BED SHEET SWATCHES DONATED TO LIVERPOOL BEATLES MUSEUM

A definitive piece of American Beatlemania has made a historic cross-Atlantic journey back to the band’s hometown. Memorabilia curator Raymond Kicklighter has announced the permanent donation of a pristine, complete set of four 1964 Whittier Hotel Beatles bedsheet swatches to the Liverpool Beatles Museum on Mathew Street.
The artifact donation was made on behalf of Lawrence “Larry” Einhorn, 90, and the late Richy Victor, completing a decades-long legacy of pop culture preservation.
The rare artifacts represent a tangible peak of the band’s frenzied 1964 North American Tour.
Following The Beatles’ stay at the Whittier Hotel in Detroit, Michigan, on September 6, 1964, the executive suite bedding used by the band was acquired, authenticated, and portioned into small  swatches .
While these artifacts are deeply rooted in the history of American fandom, Einhorn’s wish at 90 years old was to see this complete, definitive set returned permanently to “the boys’ hometown.”
The business venture was so unique that a 28-year-old Larry Einhorn famously appeared as a contestant on the hit CBS television game show To Tell the Truth on October 5, 1964, stumped panelists Kitty Carlisle and Tom Poston, and defended the integrity of the unlaundered, authenticated 1-inch squares sold to frantic fans for $1 each.
The cultural phenomenon of these specific hotel bedsheet relics was later immortalized on the silver screen, serving as a key plot point in Robert Zemeckis’s acclaimed 1978 pop-culture film I Wanna Hold Your Hand.
Unlike isolated fragments that occasionally surface on the secondary market, this specific donation comprises a beautifully preserved, complete set representing all four band members:
  • John Lennon Executive Suite No. 1566 swatch and certificate
  • Paul McCartney Executive Suite No. 1566 swatch and certificate
  • George Harrison Executive Suite No. 1566 swatch and certificate
  • Ringo Starr Executive Suite No. 1566 swatch and certificate
In addition to the matching four-member swatch set, the donation features critical legal and historical documentation that solidifies its archive-grade status. This includes a historical copy of the official cease-and-desist letter issued on October 14, 1964, by the New York Law Offices of Walter Hofer, alongside an invaluable personal letter penned by Larry Einhorn himself, detailing exactly how he conceived the wild marketing idea.
Each swatch is affixed to its original Certificate of Authenticity carrying the facsimile signature of Jimmie Hawkins, Managing Director of the Whittier Hotel, certifying that the Fab Four occupied Executive Suite No. 1566, arriving at 1:17 A.M. and checking out at 2:05 P.M. on September 6, 1964.
“These swatches are a monument to the scale of American Beatlemania, but their true home is Liverpool,” said Kicklighter. “Larry Einhorn, now 90, deeply desired to have this collection preserved in the city where it all began. This donation honors that wish and serves as a lasting tribute to the legacy of Larry and his late business partner, Richy Victor, who passed away years earlier.”
The collection was coordinated directly with Liverpool Beatles Museum Manager Paul Parry, who stated the museum is deeply honored to receive these historically significant artifacts. The complete set and its accompanying archival paperwork were officially delivered to the museum registry last week and will be prepared for public display, bridging the unique story of America’s 1964 invasion with the museum on Mathew Street.
