A unassuming mid-terrace house in Liverpool’s Dingle neighborhood—where a young Paul McCartney first strummed a six-string and immersed himself in early rock ‘n’ roll—is set to go under the hammer later this month with an estimated price tag of £150,000 to £170,000.

Located at 43 Elswick Street, the two-bedroom property was the childhood residence of Ian James, a close schoolmate of the music icon.

Beyond its modest exterior featuring a traditional front porch, living room, kitchen, downstairs restroom, and rear alleyway access, the address occupies a storied place in pop culture history as the launchpad for one of the greatest songwriting journeys of the 20th century.

Paul himself has famously authenticated the home’s historic role. In a handwritten letter verifying a guitar used at the address, McCartney recalled: “The above guitar, belonging to my old school pal Ian James, was the first guitar I ever held, it was also the guitar on which I learned my first chords in his house at 43 Elswick Street, Liverpool 8.”

That same historic instrument later fetched £330,000 when James sold it at auction in 2006.

The online bidding event is being managed by Merseyside-based Omega Auctions.

The firm’s previous sales include the former home of John Lennon’s mother, Julia, as well as a property where George Harrison spent a significant portion of his youth. Bidding for the Elswick Street terrace will officially close at 1:00 PM on October 26.
