The first look at the documentary “Man on the Run” reveals the compelling narrative of Paul McCartney’s artistic resurgence following the end of The Beatles. Directed by Academy Award-winner Morgan Neville (Won’t You Be My Neighbor, 20 Feet From Stardom), the film offers a deep, personal exploration of how McCartney built a new creative life during the chaotic years after the band’s dissolution. Rather than retreating, the legendary musician formed Wings with his wife, Linda McCartney, confronting the monumental task of forging an identity outside the shadow of the world’s biggest group.

“Man on the Run” chronicles this transformation, granting unprecedented access to never-before-seen footage and rare archival content. The documentary portrays McCartney not as an untouchable celebrity, but as a dedicated artist who overcame creative exhaustion to rediscover his passion and define a new decade of music.

For decades, many have undervalued McCartney’s solo work, often overshadowed by the high-profile solo careers of John Lennon and George Harrison (with his seminal debut All Things Must Pass). Yet, his 1970s output—spanning from the raw, experimental sounds of McCartney and Ram to the polished pop brilliance of Band on the Run and Venus and Mars—is arguably some of the most innovative and melodic music of his entire career. This film seeks to change the perception of this period, framing it not as a downward slide from Beatlemania but as one of the most significant and unconventional reinventions in the history of modern pop.

Presented by Amazon MGM Studios and produced by Tremolo in association with MPL and Polygram Entertainment, “Man on the Run” is more than just a music documentary; it’s a testament to creative revival.

The film is the cornerstone of a major collaboration between Paul McCartney, Universal Music Group, and Amazon that will roll out over the coming year. Alongside the documentary, fans can look forward to exclusive new music, limited-edition merchandise through Amazon Music, and special features like personal commentary from McCartney and archival material.

Man on the Run, presented by Amazon MGM Studios, is produced by Tremolo, in association with MPL and Polygram Entertainment, will be released in select theaters and subsequently available on Prime Video February 25 in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. Producers include Morgan Neville, Chloe Simmons, and Meghan Walsh for Tremolo; Scott Rodger and Ben Chappell for MPL; and Michele Anthony and David Blackman for Polygram Entertainment. Executive producers include Caitrin Rogers and Paul McCartney.

This campaign is complemented by several related projects:

The book Wings: The Story of a Band on the Run is set for release on November 4 via Amazon

The definitive “WINGS” collection arrives on cd and vinyl on November 7; and McCartney’s Got Back tour is scheduled to resume across North America this autumn.
