Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr are teaming up once again, reuniting for what is being called the “most Beatle-esque track” on Paul’s upcoming album. During an intimate listening party in Los Angeles, Paul revealed that his album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane, includes a collaboration with Ringo.

The song is titled “Home to Us,” and it features Ringo not only on drums but also on vocals; Paul and Ringo trade verses line by line as they sing about growing up. “I saw Ringo and told him I was working with this guy [producer] Andrew [Watt]. Ringo came over to Andrew’s studio and played a little bit of drums,” Paul said.

Although Ringo was under the impression that he had given Watt enough material to create a song, he felt “a bit pissed” to find out that wasn’t the case. However, Paul liked the track and decided to write a song about their childhood in Liverpool.

“Even though where we lived was a little rough, it was home to us,” Paul said, explaining the title of the track. After McCartney recorded his part, he sent the demo to Ringo and asked him to sing on it. Starr misunderstood the request and initially only sang on the chorus, leading Paul to wonder if his former bandmate even liked the song.

Eventually, the two talked it over, and Ringo returned to the studio to record more drums and turn the track into a closer collaboration. “Ringo’s never done a duet with one of the Beatles,” McCartney noted with a laugh.

“Home to Us” includes tempo shifts, key changes, and layered vocals with assists from Chrissie Hynde (of The Pretenders) and Sharleen Spiteri (of Texas).

The album is set for release on May 29 and marks Paul McCartney’s first solo release since 2020. The record reportedly features “bold tempo and stylistic changes.” Additionally, Paul plays every instrument himself, with the exception of the strings and orchestration.

The LP was recorded between England and Los Angeles.

“When I first met Andrew, I thought, ‘He’s a bit pushy,'” Paul recalled regarding the producer, who has worked with the likes of the Rolling Stones, Elton John, and Post Malone. “And he is, but that’s what you want in a producer. You don’t want a shrinking violet.”
