Paul McCartney kicked off the show with his signature, violin-shaped Hofner bass strapped on, delivering the opening lines of The Beatles’ “Help”—a track primarily penned by John Lennon. He continued with a string of hits, including “Coming Up,” “Got to Get You Into My Life,” and “Drive My Car.” Addressing the packed arena, he declared, “Well, we got some old songs, some new songs and some in-between songs for you.” The material included the 2018 rocker “Come On to Me,” which transitioned smoothly into a powerful rendition of “Let Me Roll It.” That performance closed with a clear musical tribute to Jimi Hendrix’s “Foxy Lady.” For this staple Wings track, which has been in his live rotation since its 1974 release, Paul swapped his bass for an electric guitar.
Paul McCartney frequently paused the music to engage with the audience, often reading aloud signs that caught his eye. For example, he shared one sign acknowledging a fan’s dedication: “100 shows since 1976.” Another, more cheeky one, requesting, “Paul, sign my butt,” drew a laugh from the affable star. Later, following his performance of “Blackbird,” Paul recounted a story about a Beatles show in Florida. At that gig, the band made a stand against racial segregation, refusing to perform until they convinced the promoter to allow a mixed-race crowd.
