In August 1964, The Beatles had been playing together for four years and were embarking on their first official world tour. Seattle’s KeyArena, then called the Seattle Coliseum, was the third stop on their tour.

Timothy Eagan, a 19-year-old photographer from Queen Anne, was able to score a press pass from a family friend.

His photographs are now managed by MOHAI, who describes the scene: “The fearless teen elbowed his way up to the front of the stage to shoot three rolls of film.”

Eagan was one of almost 15,000, mostly teenage, fans who filled the venue. It was reported that girls outnumbered the boys 20 to 1 and the the music could barely be heard over the screaming teens.

Eagan later continued his photography career as a staff photographer for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer and then with an agency in New York.

During their Seattle visit, the “Fab Four” stayed at the Edgewater Hotel, marking the hotel’s place in Seattle history.
