Richard Wilkins sat down for an exclusive chat with Ringo Starr in the famous Abbey Road Studio 3, where the band recorded some of their biggest hits.
He spoke about the different ideas that were thrown around, before the famous Abbey Road cover was decided on.
“We would sit round, not only for the Abbey Road cover, but for many covers, [and say] ‘we’ve got to go up Everest and dive off and they can shoot us,’ or ‘we’ve got to go to a volcano in Hawaii,’ or ‘we’ve got to go to the pyramids’,” Starr tells Dickie.

He laughs recounting how, for their most famous album, they settled on the simple idea of walking across the road, outside.
“That’s all we did!” Starr says.”And it’s the most famous album cover in history,” Richard Wilkins adds.

Ringo says he remembers the day clearly. “We just got up in the morning, got dressed, and went. That’s just how we were dressed that day.” Making a joke about the conspiracy theories surrounding the cover, Ringo cheekily adds, “you know, that’s not actually Paul,” laughing.
Ringo has made far more music in his solo career than he ever made with the Beatles. “This is my twentieth album that I’m putting out next month.”

The album has been written by Men At Work’s Colin Hay. Ever nosey, Dickie pushed the Beatles legend for when he would bring the All Starr band back to Australia. “That’s not up to me,” Starr laughs. But a return, he suggests, is certainly on the books.
