"THE WORLD IS STILL SPINNING": APPLE’s FINAL STATEMENT

Paul McCartney’s announcement was made through a press release sent to certain UK journalists on 9 April, alongside advance copies of his album McCartney.

The release was structured as a Q&A where McCartney talked about his record and—since Lennon’s departure was still being kept from the public for commercial reasons—issues regarding the Beatles’ near future.

While McCartney didn’t explicitly say the band had split, he mentioned his “break with the Beatles” and noted he had no plans to record with them again; he also stressed his detachment from Allen Klein’s management and dismissed the chance of ever songwriting with Lennon again.

Although McCartney claimed that Apple’s press officer, Derek Taylor, had provided the questions, Taylor later stated that the ones about the Beatles were actually inserted by McCartney himself.
