A signed photograph featuring all four members of The Beatles recently sold at auction. The collectible, which bears the autographs of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, fetched £1,900 after being held by a former teenage fan since 1963.

The item went on the block at Richard Winterton Auctioneers in Lichfield and dates back to the very beginning of the Beatlemania period, having been signed before a concert in Coventry.

The seller, Chris Barrows (74), shared the story behind the acquisition. His late brother, Phil, obtained the signatures thanks to their father, Ron, a piano tuner. Mr. Barrows senior was scheduled to tune the piano before The Beatles’ gig. While Chris, who preferred football at the time, stayed home, Phil, who had just started playing guitar, joined their father.

Upon arriving, the group was already there, and the elder Mr. Barrows had to request Ringo Starr to temporarily stop drumming so he could get to work. This provided Phil with a unique opportunity: he was invited into the band’s dressing room and even jammed briefly with the stars.

Mr. Barrows recalled that his brother, who passed away in September, played guitar with both John Lennon and Paul McCartney, and even got to try out Paul’s left-handed bass. Phil returned with the signed photo, which also included a personalized message from Ringo Starr at the top, along with the dedication: “To Philip best wishes from The Beatles.”

The rare piece of memorabilia had been estimated to sell for between £1,500 and £2,000.
