On the eighteenth day of the Get Back rehearsals, the Beatles concentrated heavily on the title track “Get Back,” while also working through an array of supplementary material. Even though the band remained undecided regarding a concluding live performance, a sense of urgency loomed over the sessions because Ringo Starr was scheduled to begin production on the film The Magic Christian in early February 1969.

This deadline pushed the group to refine the specific tracks they felt were most polished for a potential concert or film appearance. Over the course of the day, they captured 32 versions of “Get Back,” playing with various rhythms and vocal deliveries, including a parody in German and a rendition featuring Japanese-inspired characters.

The band also spent significant time on “Let It Be,” “The Long And Winding Road,” “Don’t Let Me Down,” and “I’ve Got A Feeling.” While the versions recorded on this specific date didn’t make the final cut for the Let It Be LP (with the exception of “Don’t Let Me Down,” which was excluded from the album entirely), the sessions remained productive. They also ran through “Oh! Darling” four times, including a high-energy, seven-minute take filled with playful banter between John Lennon and Paul McCartney; an edited snippet of this moment eventually surfaced on Anthology 3.

Additionally, George Harrison debuted “Old Brown Shoe,” a track that would later serve as the B-side for “The Ballad Of John And Yoko.” Many of these performances, ranging from “Strawberry Fields Forever” to “Water! Water!”, were ultimately showcased in the third chapter of Peter Jackson’s 2021 Get Back docuseries.
