During the seventeenth day of the Get Back sessions, The Beatles primarily concentrated on “Let It Be” and “The Long and Winding Road,” accompanied in the studio by Linda McCartney and her daughter, Heather.
The day opened with George Harrison playing solo acoustic renditions of his own tracks, including “Isn’t It a Pity,” “Let It Down,” and the unreleased “Window, Window,” alongside a Paul McCartney original titled “Suicide” and covers like “You Really Got a Hold on Me.”
George also assisted Ringo Starr with the development of “Octopus’s Garden”—a moment captured in the Let It Be documentary—while the return of Billy Preston proved pivotal in refining the band’s sound.
Preston’s soulful organ work significantly elevated “Let It Be,” bringing the group close to a master-quality take by the evening. The session concluded with an intensive, hour-long focus on “The Long and Winding Road,” featuring Paul on piano and John Lennon on bass; this specific version later appeared on Anthology 3 and served as the foundation for the heavily orchestrated arrangement produced by Phil Spector for the final album.
