JOHN LENNON's.ASSASSIN UNVEILS DEEPER, SELFISH MOTIVE FOR 1980 MURDER

The individual convicted of the 1980 fatal shooting of John Lennon in New York City has recently confessed the true impetus behind the heinous act, nearly five decades later.

The revelation came during his 14th unsuccessful bid for parole. The 70-year-old, currently serving a sentence of 20 years to life, opened up to the board about the decision that could now see him remain incarcerated for the rest of his life.

While the killer had previously cited a connection to J.D. Salinger’s protagonist Holden Caulfield from The Catcher in the Rye, believing Lennon was a “phony,” his recent testimony exposed a more sinister and self-centered reason.

Speaking from the Green Haven Correctional Facility in August, the killer, identified in the New York Post report, admitted that his motivation was entirely rooted in Lennon‘s celebrity and his own desire for prominence. “This was for me and me alone, unfortunately, and it had everything to do with his popularity,” he stated. “My crime was completely selfish.”

When asked directly why he murdered the global music icon, he confessed:

“To be famous, to be something I wasn’t.” He realized, he explained, that he could “be a somebody” without having to die. “I had sunk that low,” he added, recalling that on the morning of December 8th, “I just knew… that was going to be the day that I was going to meet and kill him.”

Despite expressing regret for the “devastation” and “agony” he caused Lennon’s family, friends, and fans, the parole board determined that he lacked “genuine remorse or meaningful empathy” for his victim. He is now ineligible to apply for release again until 2027.

“This was a human being,” he said of Lennon, adding that at the time of the crime, he had “no thought about that at all… I didn’t care.” He concluded his statement by asserting that he no longer seeks fame: “I don’t have any interest at all in being famous. Put me under the rug somewhere. I don’t want to be famous anymore, period.”
