The ambitious expansion driven by Apple Corps Ltd., backed by Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, goes beyond a mere nostalgic homage to become a engine of urban regeneration with profound strategic significance for Liverpool. By utilizing a 100,000-square-foot space and integrating St Johns Beacon, the initiative reshapes local tourism infrastructure, diversifying the city’s commercial, culinary, and hospitality sectors.

This project not only guarantees a steady influx of high-spending international visitors, but also enhances the historical heritage of the band through immersive storytelling and cutting-edge technology. Most notably on a social level is its sustainable development model: the creation of the Apple Corps Liverpool Trust directly channels box-office revenues into the local cultural community. In doing so, the Beatles’ legacy ceases to be just an asset of the past, instead funding the future of emerging local artistic talent and solidifying Liverpool as a truly living musical capital with a circular economic impact.

Liverpool’s iconic St Johns Beacon—formerly the home of Radio City—is set to transform into a Beatles-themed attraction inspired by Yellow Submarine in 2028. Beyond serving as an independent destination, the site will give guests a 360-degree panoramic skyline view of Liverpool and key locations tied to the legendary band’s heritage.

This project coincides with a massive relocation of The Beatles Story, which will move from its long-standing home at Albert Dock to the former St Johns Market site within St Johns Shopping Centre, conveniently situated right across from Liverpool Lime Street station. Spanning 100,000 square feet, the new facility will be more than quadruple the size of its current location. Apple Corps is scheduled to assume management of the attraction in 2027, ahead of its official 2028 reopening, though visitors will have the option to purchase combined access for both the Beacon and the main exhibit.

The expanded museum will leverage cutting-edge immersive tech and authentic memorabilia. Guests will be able to walk through detailed recreations of pivotal moments in the group’s journey, including Abbey Road Studios, Savile Row, Shea Stadium, and The Cavern Club.

Band members expressed enthusiasm for the new venture. Paul McCartney highlighted his deep connection to the city, sharing: “I love Liverpool. It’s part of who I am, it’s part of who The Beatles are. It couldn’t have happened without Liverpool and I can’t wait for people to be able to step into our story and share the experience.” Ringo Starr similarly praised the project, adding that “Liverpool was, and still is, music city.”

Financially, every admission ticket purchased for The Beatles Story will help fund the newly launched Apple Corps Liverpool Trust. This entity will deliver funding and career pathways for up-and-coming local talent as well as regional cultural initiatives. The overall redevelopment is being spearheaded through a collaborative partnership between Apple Corps, the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, and Liverpool City Council, backed by central government support.
