The artwork, created by Liverpool painter John Culshaw, represents the newest addition to a series by the charity Mandela8, which honors inspiring local icons and role models from the city’s Black and Caribbean communities.

Hailing from Trinidad, the calypso artist, steelpan musician, and music promoter emerged as a pivotal figure in the local music scene while guiding the Fab Four during their formative years.

Beyond his work with the legendary group, he popularized steelpan and calypso sounds across the region by heading groups such as the All-Caribbean Steel Band alongside Lord Woodbine and his Trinidadians.

Located in Liverpool’s Toxteth neighborhood, the tribute pays homage to Lord Woodbine—a guiding force for The Beatles and a pillar of the local Caribbean community.

The new mural is a community-driven tribute to the musician often remembered as the “forgotten sixth Beatle”.

Before their worldwide breakthrough, he actively managed and promoted the band, even driving them to Hamburg in 1960 and taking the stage to perform by their side.
