Filing through the Chancery Division, McCartney sought a formal declaration to dissolve the “Beatles and Co.” partnership established in 1967. His legal request called for a total winding up of the group’s affairs, a detailed audit of all financial transactions between the members, and the appointment of an independent receiver to manage the band’s collective assets.

The lawsuit named John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr (listed as Richard Starkey) as defendants, alongside their company, Apple Corps Ltd. Represented by the firm Ashurst, Morris Crisp and Co., McCartney’s filing detailed the various residences of the legendary quartet, ranging from his own home in St. John’s Wood to Lennon’s temporary stay at the Regency Hotel in New York. This move signaled the definitive end of an era for the organization, which had been founded just a few years prior with the idealistic goal of supporting emerging artists and had grown into a multi-million pound enterprise headquartered in Mayfair.
