Paul McCartney visited Jimmy Kimmel Live! yesterday to share a candid conversation about his legendary career.

Beyond promoting the upcoming deluxe release of his latest album—The Boys of Dungeon Lane (Special Edition)—Paul reflected on the ordinary moments, creative missteps, and accidental reunions that have defined his decades in the spotlight.

One of the highlights of the conversation revolved around his latest single, “Home To Us,” the duet with Ringo Starr.

Paul shared that during a session with producer Andrew Watt, Ringo dropped by the studio and laid down a few drum tracks. Afterward, Ringo mentioned to Paul that he was eager to see those beats built into an actual song. When that didn’t materialize right away, Ringo was left pretty annoyed, as Paul put it. Down the line, during another studio session with Watt, Paul remembered the discarded drum session and inquired whether they still had the audio saved.

“Wait a minute. What about that drumming Ringo did? Have you got it still?” McCartney recalled. The answer was yes, and that became the starting point for “Home To Us”.

The host delved into the shadow cast by his post-Beatles era with his band Wings. McCartney confessed that stepping out of the Liverpool quartet’s massive wake required a conscious and often difficult effort to avoid relying on his past, deliberately refusing to perform Beatles songs or mimic their signature songwriting style.

Examining that era through home footage recorded in Scotland, Paul laughed as he recalled his attempts at carpentry, crafting Christmas decorations, and the chaotic family life alongside his late wife Linda and their children—a lifestyle he now acknowledges was endearing in its complete disarray.

“We didn’t notice. We were young and foolish,” he said.

Self-deprecating humor was present throughout the broadcast. When Kimmel reminisced about a Los Angeles party where the two ended up chatting inside a bathroom, McCartney didn’t hesitate to respond with a witty nod to the Abbey Road classic, “She Came In Through The Bathroom Window.”

The rock legend also shared lighter moments from his personal life, such as being turned away at a Grammys afterparty alongside Beck and Woody Harrelson, or performing “I Want To Hold Your Hand” as a duet with Taylor Swift at her wedding after encouraging her to sing it directly to her husband.

McCartney, now a grandfather of eight, reflected on how family shapes his current stage experience, highlighting how moving it is to see his grandchildren dancing in the front row—a sharp contrast to his own childhood, as both of his grandfathers passed away before he was born.

This blend of endearing nostalgia and grounded realism reflects the spirit of The Boys of Dungeon Lane, an album built on his pre-fame memories.

The newly announced Special Edition includes a new “flip mix” that swaps their vocal lines, alongside three previously unreleased tracks: “City Fox,” “One Night Stand,” and “Chelsea Boots.”

The digital edition of The Boys of Dungeon Lane (Special Edition) debuts October 7, 2026, followed by the physical double-vinyl (2LP) release on December 9, 2026.

Rick Mitarotonda, Peter Anspach, and Cotter Ellis met Paul McCartney backstage. Goose, the Connecticut-based jam band, was tasked with closing out the show’s special “Brooklyn Week” residency.
