PAUL McCARTNEY's NOTE TO SAM MENDES ABOUT HIS BEATLES BIOPIC PORTRAYAL

Talking to Amy Poehler on her Good Hang podcast, Paul McCartney shared his thoughts on a detail that is important to him and to documentaries: his height is misrepresented. At one point in the conversation, Paul said: “We were all the same height!” he exclaimed.
“We were all the same height, and Ringo was a bit smaller. And if you look at photos, we’re all the same height.”

“We were all the same height, and Ringo was a bit smaller, and if you look at photos, we’re all the same height.” but when Sam Taylor-Wood did Nowhere Boy, the John Lennon character was bigger than me in the film,” he said.
“My character is wimpy and smaller than John, and is easily knocked to the floor.”

Additionally, McCartney noted how he got in touch with director Sam Taylor-Wood to clear up the issue.

“Her only explanation was that it was a movie, not a documentary, and I did not like that,” he said. “There was me as little Paul, and John was a great big hero.”

With new project films in production, Paul McCartney revealed that Sam Mendes reached out with early material, and the topic came up yet again.

“Sam Mendes is making the film. I said, ‘Sam, I’ve got just one thing that I need to say to you. You know, Paul (Mescal is) a bit smaller’ – I don’t know how Sam’s gonna deal with it,”
“[Sam] sent me a picture, a still from the filming they were doing, and they’re crossing the Abbey Road crossing, and the Paul character is markedly smaller. I texted him saying: ‘Sam he’s Smaller, Don’t do this! You said you wouldn’t do it.'” He said it’s okay, it’s just the stride pattern, they’re all equal,” he added.

“Guess what? Mescal is smaller than the guy who plays John,” he laughed.

Sam Mendes’ four Beatles movies are scheduled to be released in April 2028.
