‘Film is fabulous’ delegation returned lost material to the bbc, including The Beatles segment on Top Of The Pops that we communicated a few days ago.
Members of the Film is Fabulous! board of trustees were delighted to visit BBC Broadcast Centre in London. The visit was arranged to discuss the on-going collaboration between the charitable trust and the BBC, including the return of missing and rare material to BBC Archives.
Chair of the board of trustees, Prof. Justin Smith, led a party from Film is Fabulous! which included Sue Malden, Jo Griffin, Simon Nicholls, and John Franklin (the remaining trustee, Laraine Porter, was unable to attend). They met with senior leaders of various BBC departments.
In recent months, Film is Fabulous! have recovered a host of missing and rare BBC items. A key objective for the team is to ensure that the material they return to copyright holders is made available to a wide audience, via regional events, streaming platforms and broadcasts.
The discussions included the screening of the ‘colour recovered’ version of Late Night Horror, and The Beatles on Top of the Pops film insert (subject to the music licences being secured), on BBC iPlayer, and other broadcast options. This is extremely positive, and more details will be published shortly.
The visit concluded with members of the Film is Fabulous! team presenting Claire Coss, Head of Library and Curatorial Services, Archives Technology & Services, with the original film prints and negatives that had been found within a number of private film collections in the U.K.
