The Beatles are targeting a return to the top spot with Rubber Soul, six decades after it last led the charts.

Rubber Soul is currently leading the midweek updates for the UK Official Albums Chart and is on track to return to the number 1 spot.

This dramatic surge is driven by the recent release (on October 2, 2026) of the new Expanded Special Edition and the various deluxe box sets, which feature the new stereo mixes by Giles Martin and Sam Okell.

To secure the top spot this week, The Beatles are competing in a tight race:

Blossoms: They are the main contenders. If they manage to overtake The Beatles, the band would secure their fifth UK Number 1 album.

Johnny Marr: The former Smiths guitarist is also in the running; his new solo album, The Age Of Everything, currently sits at number 3.

The Fab Four’s 1965 landmark release,Rubber Soul, could grab the No. 1 position 60 years after its previous run at the peak. Issued as an expanded special release, the package gathers 24 studio outtakes. The set highlights prototype versions of legendary tracks such as “Day Tripper” and “We Can Work It Out,” plus a newly surfaced John Lennon home demo titled “Little Girl.”

Rubber Soul logged eight straight weeks at No. 1 back in 1965, marking the group’s sixth overall chart-topper at the time. According to the Official Charts, it also ranks as the sixth most-streamed 1960s album. The band’s most recent No. 1 LP occurred in October 2019, whenAbbey Roadreturned to the summit.

If Rubber Soul manages to maintain its lead until the final chart publication this Friday, it will mark several major milestones in the band’s history:

• 60th Anniversary: It would return to the top of the UK charts exactly 60 years after its last appearance at number 1. The original album spent a total of nine weeks in that position following its release.

• First #1 since Abbey Road: It would become the band’s first album to reach number 1 in the UK since October 2019, when the 50th anniversary reissue of Abbey Road returned to the top spot.

• Digital Dominance: The Official Charts Company recently revealed that Rubber Soul remains strong in the modern era as the sixth most-streamed album of the 1960s.
