Tatia Starkey‘s collection is currently on display at the Kaizen Fine Art gallery in Bagshot, running through October 10 and featuring a special showcase event this Thursday. James Thompson, the gallery’s owner, acknowledged that Starkey’s famous lineage as Ringo Starr‘s granddaughter “definitely helped” catch his attention among the dozens of portfolio submissions he receives weekly. He noted that collectors are naturally drawn to creators with notable backgrounds or distinct personal histories.

Despite that connection, Thompson admitted his initial reaction to the proposal was a firm rejection. It was only after examining her pieces more closely that he was genuinely impressed by her style, describing her artwork as “very different” from his usual exhibits and praising her as “wonderful, creative [and] expressive.”

For her part, the former musician views this exhibition as an opportunity to carve out her own independent identity away from both band dynamics and her iconic family name. “This feels very much a solo venture,” Starkey explained, expressing her wish for visitors to form a meaningful, direct connection with her creations on their own terms.

Titled Invert, the series features canvases painted using her own physical body as the medium. Speaking to BBC Radio Surrey, Starkey described the creative process as a vital outlet to project her internal state outward, sharing that her primary intention is to convey human emotion—ranging from deep affection to absolute loss, alongside life’s most elevated moments.
