The Beatles played 48 consecutive nights at this Hamburg club without a single day off.

Their final performance there took place on October 3, 1960, due to police pressure stemming from a series of complaints made by a woman living above the venue.

Although the group was contractually obligated to perform at Bruno Koschmider’s establishments from August 17 to October 16, their time at this specific location came to an end. By this point, the band had already performed live for over 200 hours in Germany.

Koschmider decided to turn the Indra back into a strip club and moved The Beatles to the larger Kaiserkeller the following night.

The agreement with Bruno Koschmider specified that the group lacked legal work permits at first, with each member earning 30 marks a day.

Initially, the club was nearly empty, so The Beatles had to perform with the doors wide open to draw people in from the street. This is where the famous anecdote of Koschmider shouting “Mach Schau, Beatles! Mach Schau!” originated, as the band often stood motionless on stage due to sheer exhaustion.

It was during their residency at the Indra that John Lennon began acting in an erratic and humorous manner to combat boredom; furthermore, the band was forced to learn dozens of new songs by artists like Chuck Berry, Little Richard, and Ray Charles to fill their six-hour sets.
