Today, June 25, marks a momentous occasion as fans across the globe unite to celebrate the very first official Global Beatles Day. While this date has long been revered by the fan community—having originated as a grassroots initiative by dedicated fan Faith Cohen in 2009—this year signifies a historic turning point. For the first time, The Beatles and Apple Corps Ltd have officially recognized June 25 as the annual day to honor the band’s enduring legacy, formalizing a tradition that has spanned years of worldwide listening parties, singalongs, and heartfelt tributes.

To commemorate this inaugural official celebration, a breathtakingly restored, colourised version of the band’s landmark live satellite performance of “All You Need Is Love” has been shared online. This footage captures the band’s iconic appearance on Our World, the BBC programme that made history as the first live global satellite television broadcast. On this very day in 1967, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr gathered inside Studio One at Abbey Road Studios—accompanied by a small audience that included Mick Jagger—to transmit a message of unity to an estimated 400 million viewers.

Beyond the technological achievement of that 1967 broadcast, the song remains a timeless anthem. It serves as a profound reminder that The Beatles’ music transcends the boundaries of generations and geography; it is a universal language of hope that continues to resonate in our modern era. By celebrating this day, we are not merely looking back at a legendary performance, but acknowledging how their art continues to provide a blueprint for human connection. In a world that often feels fractured, the enduring philosophy of the Fab Four reminds us that empathy and creative expression are the most potent tools we have for lasting change.

The band members and their estates have joined in the festivities to express their gratitude. The official Beatles Instagram account declared, “It’s officially the best day of the year,”

While Paul McCartney reached out to fans, noting, “Have a great time on what is now Global Beatles Day (good group!).”

Ringo Starr, consistent with his lifelong mission, offered his own signature message of “peace and love,” stating: “All you need is love, love peace and love. I send you all peace and love love love no matter what you choose. Choose love. Ringo”

The George Harrison account shared: ” Happy Global Beatles Day!”

The John Lennon account shared a poignant reflection from the late icon: “They, whoever they are, don’t stand a chance, because they can’t beat love,” adding, “Wishing fans around the world a very happy Global Beatles Day with love from Yoko and Sean.”
