A collection of never-before-seen photographs of The Beatles, taken by a crew member during the filming of A Hard Day’s Night and Help!, is set to be a major highlight at an upcoming auction in Lichfield.

The archive was assembled by Edward Tucker, who worked for decades in the movie industry, primarily as a grip. This technical role meant he was responsible for setting up and maintaining the camera support equipment, giving him a front-row seat to many iconic cinematic moments.

Mr. Tucker’s daughter, Leigh-Anne, and son, Owen, are bringing the collection to Richard Winterton Auctioneers on Monday, November 3rd, following their father’s death eight years ago at the age of 83. The archive was discovered during a Dickinson’s Real Deal event.

The items include:

• Eight unseen photos of The Beatles—six from the set of A Hard Day’s Night (including shots of Ringo and the director, Richard Lester) and two from Help!. (LOT 751A)

• Film scripts, such as one for the 1976 movie The Eagle Has Landed.
• Signed celebrity photographs from stars like Sir Michael Caine and Kate Bush. The collection even has a signed photo for Mr. Tucker’s late wife, Sheila, from Michael Caine, alongside a ticket to the 1966 premiere of Alfie.
• An autograph book featuring signatures from 1980s music and TV stars, including Boy George and Christopher Reeve, collected during Mr. Tucker’s later work on music videos like Queen’s I Want To Break Free.

Leigh-Anne shared that her father’s career as a respected grip, which involved traveling the world, began spontaneously when he was invited to work as a set builder because he lived next door to Twickenham Studios.

The auction is open to the public from 9 am on the day, with host David Dickinson filming the event for the ITV antiques show.
