A photograph of The Beatles, signed by the band, is set to be auctioned off on September 29.

The photo was acquired by a teenager from Warwickshire after ‘jam session’, the photograph to go under the hammer.

A signed photo of the Beatles is going up for auction. The unique item was acquired by Phil Barrows, a teenager from Atherstone, during a visit to the Coventry Theatre with his father in 1963. At the time, his father was tuning the piano for the band’s show.

Ringo Starr even added a personal dedication before a gig in Coventry as Beatlemania took a hold of the nation. Chris Barrows, 74, said his late brother Phil was at the Coventry Theatre in 1963 with their father Ron, Steinway’s chief piano tuner for the Midlands. Chris said: “My dad came home one day and said he was going to tune the piano ahead of The Beatles’ show and other performances. I didn’t go as I was more interested in football at that time.

“But my brother had been playing guitar for six months and went along.” The Beatles were already there when the duo arrived, and Ron had to ask Ringo to stop playing the drums so he could work. The pause gave Phil a chance to visit the band in their dressing room.

The youngster even enjoyed a quick jam session with them as he was learning to play guitar.

The photo he left with is signed by all four members, with a personalized message from Ringo reading, “To Philip, best wishes from the Beatles.” The signatures of John Lennon, George Harrison, and Paul McCartney are also included. Ringo’s signature was cloaked by the group’s dark suits but was still visible.

The photo is now being auctioned by Barrows‘ brother, Chris, who was originally supposed to receive a signed photo of his own, but it was lost over time. Chris and Phil, who passed away in September 2024, later formed their own professional band, even touring with American acts like Del Shannon and Bobby Vee. The photo is estimated to sell for £1,500 to £2,000 and will be auctioned on September 29 by Richard Winterton Auctioneers.
