The legendary Paul McCartney continues to build upon his historic career as his latest single, “Days We Left Behind,” makes its debut at No. 22 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary radio airplay chart for the week of April 18. This track serves as a first look at his upcoming studio album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane, which is scheduled for release on May 29.
This entry marks McCartney’s first appearance on the Adult Contemporary chart since October 2018, when “Come On to Me” reached No. 10. That achievement brought his total to 19 top 10 hits as a solo artist, a collection that features five No. 1 singles.
Three of those chart-toppers were recorded with Wings:
“My Love” (3 weeks at the top in 1973)
“Silly Love Songs” (1 week in 1976)
“Let ‘Em In” (1 week in 1976)
His other solo No. 1s include iconic duets: “Ebony and Ivory” with Stevie Wonder (5 weeks in 1982) and “The Girl Is Mine” with Michael Jackson (4 weeks spanning 1982-83). His journey on this specific chart began over five decades ago in 1971 with “Another Day,” which peaked at No. 4.
McCartney’s history with the Adult Contemporary list actually stretches back to the 1960s with The Beatles. The group secured three top 10s between 1970 and 1976, most notably the four-week No. 1 hit “Let It Be” in 1970.
Notably, the arrival of “Days We Left Behind” at No. 22 represents McCartney’s highest Adult Contemporary debut since 1978, when the Wings track “With a Little Luck” premiered at No. 21. In addition to its AC success, the new song is gaining traction on adult alternative radio and previously debuted at No. 7 on the Rock Digital Songs chart (April 11).
All Billboard chart updates for the April 18 period will be officially refreshed on Tuesday, April 14.
