On December 12, 2012, Paul McCartney headlined a historic benefit at New York City’s Madison Square Garden known as 12-12-12 – The Concert For Sandy Relief.

This star-studded event featured iconic acts such as The Rolling Stones, The Who, and Bruce Springsteen, as well as a rare reunion of Nirvana’s remaining members, who shared the stage for the first time in eighteen years.

Designed to provide financial aid following the $60 billion devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy, the marathon concert distributed its earnings via the Robin Hood Relief Fund to assist victims across New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.

The spectacle reached a worldwide audience through diverse media channels including television and internet streams, and was later preserved on DVD and CD.

Paul McCartney’s own performance began after midnight and included a duet with Diana Krall and a collaboration with the Nirvana musicians, Paul appeared on stage to deliver a set consisting of six tracks with his usual ensemble, a rendition of ‘My Valentine’ featuring Diana Krall, and a collaboration on ‘Cut Me Some Slack’ with the surviving members of Nirvana.

Eventually culminating in a grand finale where Alicia Keys led all the night’s performers in “Empire State of Mind.”

Supported by his regular touring band, this show marked another milestone in Paul McCartney’s extensive history at the Garden, building upon a legacy of performances at the venue that began with Wings in 1976 and continued through multiple world tours over the following decades.
